Gary Shoats : History Teacher & Educator

Gary Shoats is a history teacher, and enjoys teaching his students about how historical events have shaped the world in which we live today.  Although he did not always want to be a teacher, he knew that he really enjoyed being in a learning environment.  After graduating from high school, he decided that he would be interested in pursuing  a teaching career when he attend a career seminar.  After completing his general education, he began taking lessons for a bachelor’s in education.

Currently, he teaches history at the elementary level.  Some of  his daily  responsibilities include the following:

  • Work with students of different ages and abilities
  • Prepare lessons and other teaching related materials
  • Maintain student attendance
  • Assess student progress & ensure discipline in classroom
  • Connect with teacher aides and therapists
  • Keep parents and guardians in the loop
  • Work with colleagues.
  • Be involved in extra curricula activities, school excursions and performances and sporting events.

Gary Shoats is a big proponent of education, and believes that there is no development without education. He says that education empowers people and promotes greater participation. History is proof that educated people seek freedom from the prejudices and injustices of society. An illegitimate regime will not be able to withstand the power of a well-educated majority.  Education must be recognized as a basic human right, and only then will it form the basis for liberty and justice for all.

Gary Shoats enjoys teaching world history to his students and does so by the way of exercises and interesting activities.  His favorite topics include World War 1 and 2, Renaissance, and Roman history.  His classes feature lectures, discussions, pop quizzes, films, re-enactments, crossword puzzles, and other activities.  He really enjoys taking part in and listening to student opinions about the events that took place many years ago.

When he is not busy teaching his favorite history topic, Gary likes to go trekking, rock climbing, and bicycling.  He enjoys being outdoors and also likes travelling to new and different places.  His favorite food is Mexican, French, and Indian.  He enjoys trying out new restaurants.
